Hello again folks and welcome back to my slightly disordered ramblings (hence the name of the site) and regular readers are probably wondering exactly what is going on. I disappear for about eight months and then return to be knocking out a post here every day or two. Apart from a hospital appointment yesterday (no, I could not believe an appointment for a scan on a Saturday morning either but the hospital was half-deserted and I was in and out in no time) I have done nothing but write and do all the associated nonsense like compressing images, researching, linking etc. for about a week now and am really enjoying it again, perhaps I just needed a break.

Back to Broadstairs and a different Festival.
Hello again folks and welcome back to my humble scribblings here. As is so often the case, if I am not starting with an apology for something or another, which is not the case here, I am starting with a thanks so thank you for all the kind comments on the last effort. Hopefully this post will be more about travelling than my admittedly poor attempts at philosophy, both travel and otherwise, and even have a few images for you to look at rather than slogging through my thoughts on the world. I really should leave that sort of thing to the ancients, they do it so much better.

Hello again folks, thanks so much if you waded your way through the last offering as I know it was a bit of a saga but such is the way I write. My late Mother “gifted” me a Viking middle name to add to my Scottish surname and Irish forename. All these peoples are inherent storytellers and some of it must have filtered down through my genetic inheritance, at least I would like to think so even if I would not count myself amongst the bards or skalds of old. Others say that I just talk too much, which I think is far closer to the truth! I could use a very indelicate expression here but I shall refrain.

As promised in the last post here this one is going to be quite a number of days all rolled into one, not because I am getting lazy or rushing to the end of this particular trip, which it will be but because I slipped into somewhat of a routine which probably would not interest the reader. I do, however, urge you not to skip to the next page just yet. The one thing I did manage to do was to get to see some excellent gigs and was getting confident enough with my newish camera to record some footage. This post will contain links to my YouTube page where I tend to post all my videos and I hope you enjoy them. I shall also write briefly about the one or two other things that I did but that will be brief, I promise. Continue reading “Bye bye Broadstairs (for the moment).”
A (brief) ramble in Ramsgate.
A “major trek” from Broadstairs to Margate.
In the last post I promised the reader that I would be going for a walk but I shall very briefly deal with Monday 14th October and it will be brief, believe me. The whole day is best summed up in the images above which show my usual excellent breakfast in the Royal Victoria Pavilion, a murky Ramsgate beach in the early afternoon and the full-bore rainstorm that had settled over Broadstairs by early evening and did not let up. I am a fairly hardy soul but it really was too dismal to consider doing anything of note and so we shall pass quickly on. Continue reading “A “major trek” from Broadstairs to Margate.”
I finally get to play the Pav.
Sunday the 13th was another fairly dreary day in terms of weather but I was quite excited as I was to play in the Pavilion, locally known as the Pav which has a wonderful position overlooking the harbour and Viking Bay. It is a big place, used for functions a lot and is one of the hubs for Folk Week. It is probably best known for the late night ceilidhs, many of which I have attended and some of which I even remember! Whilst I remember a couple of impromptu jams in the garden during Folk Week I had never got to play onstage there as that is reserved for proper musicians but this was the day I was going to get my chance. Another bumper Broadstairs bonanza.
Sunday 6th October.
Not Hagibis but pretty hurricane like.
As I mentioned in my last post I am going to quickly run a few days together on one post here as not very much of interest actually happened. I was doing much the same things every day and slowly regaining what health and vitality I may have once possessed and, apart from the inconvenience of self-injecting an anti-coagulant subcutaneously into my abdomen twice daily, my recovery was coming along nicely. Another Broadstairs Festival – not Folk but Food.
Strange as it may seem, I had a vague plan for the Saturday after all those days of doing very little and that was to do with another Festival that was taking place in Broadstairs, indeed it was taking place about five minutes walk from where I was staying. Instead of Folk this Festival is dedicated to Food and has been going for a number of years now. Indeed, it seems to get bigger every year.
